NOW Prez Should Be Ashamed
I’m a huge women’s advocate, but I’m also big on keeping things in perspective. So when NOW President Terry O’Neill responded to the Tebows Super Bowl anti-abortion ad by saying it glorified violence against women, I was stunned. At the end of the much-ado-about- nothing ad, the Heisman Trophy recipient fictitiously tackles his Mom with both popping up in hugs and smiles. Per the LA Times, O’Neill states “I am blown away at the celebration of the violence against women in it,” she said. “That’s what comes across to me even more strongly than the anti-abortion message. I myself am a survivor of domestic violence…I think CBS should be ashamed of itself.” No, Terry. You should be ashamed of yourself for desperately looking for something to discredit when it just isn’t there. You don’t need coffee; you need water to wash down a chill pill.

Altought the statement by NOW President Terry O'Neil is a new low no one should be supprised. NOW not only supports abortion but promots it. NOW has never been anything but a left wing radical organization that takes their direction from the Democratic party.. This is the same group that in response to Paula Jones's proven alligation that Bill Clinton sexualy harrassed her in a Little Rock hotel room, delcared that Paula Jones was just trailer trash. This should have outraged every women. There was no condemnation from NOW of any of Bill Clinton's abusive treatment of Women. The reason, wrong plitical affilation. I would bet it Tim Tow's mother declared on a Super Bowl commercial that aborting a child is the right of every women, Terry O'Neil would be singing her praises. There is only one problem with that. Instead of a light hearted faked knock down by Tim, there would be no Tim. Who would have received the violence then?
Your fiinal question posed is on target, no pun intended. Thanks for commenting.
The ad doesn't promote violence against women, it's just a bad ad. Lazy concept, lazy writing. We all know Tebow's politics, and he was preaching to the choir. Didn't change anybody's mind about anything. That makes it a bad ad.
Good point, Kim, about the lazy writing. I'd also had the word "safe" writing as well. Thanks for commenting.
You are correct Susan;Terry does need to take a chill pill. I didn’t get to see the commercial live, but watched the playback. The spot was so quick and short that you could barely understand its meaning. If you didn’t know the back story, you might not have even caught on to the message.
It’s a typical stunt (O’Neill) for getting publicity whether good or bad; it gets her face/voice in national press. Her comments were a big “to do” about nothing.
.
So true, Robin. I guess NOW and O'Neill believe there's no such thing as bad publicity. I disagree. Thanks for commenting!
Violence against women? Tim Tebow? REALLY? Are we talking about the young man who stood up after his last game to thank his parents and express his religious commitment? As a mother of two rambunctious boys, I understood (as I suspect most moms did) the playful nature of the "tackling".
And – after all the fuss over the message of the ad before the actual ad aired – like you, Susan, I was underwhelmed. Regardless of your position on the real message of the ad – i.e., pro-choice vs. anti-abortion – it seems to me that the NOW president has deliberately overlooked the true message of the ad in a desperate grab for some media attention – or just a need to try to stir things up. Move on, Terry, move on.
O'Neill's actions just feed into the "irrational woman" image – not a good thing for her leadership and NOW. The organization needs to "gong" her out of office! Thanks for commenting!
